Artists are now on a mission to overcome space
jeff koons is moving beyond exhibiting his works in museums and free galleries. the american artist now wants to send his styles into space and, more accurately, towards the moon. and he isn the only person embarking on the (creative) conquest of the market.
jeff koons has often done things on a monumental scale. just take his enormous "arrangement of tulips, installed near the petit palais in paris for the past four years. but he recently took a new step by announcing his intention to send a group of sculptures to the moon. pace art galleries, which provides the 67 year old artist, says his creations will be sent to the celestial body in miniature cubesat geostationary satellites measuring about 10 cm on all sides. the launch will take place by the end of the season from the kennedy space center in florida to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the apollo 17 mission.
jeff koons believes that this stratospheric project, called moon years, may very well "explore the imagination and technological innovation of the human race, for this vein, he has decided to associate an nft with charmdate scam each of the sculptures being sent to the moon. the british sacha jafri had an equivalent idea, revealing in february that he too wanted to one of his creations on the moon.
entitled "we rise together with the sunshine of the moon, the artwork was created on gold coated aerospace grade aluminum designed to face up to temperatures ranging from 173c to 123c. it will be delivered to the moon in the coming months through the us space agency commercial lunar payload services program. nfts will probably sold at each stage of the "we rise together with the sunshine of the moon" set up mission, with a component to the proceeds going to charity.
one not so big step for man, one record-breaking leap for art
bear in mind, jeff koons and sacha jafri aren the first artists to have set out on a mission to conquer space in relation to their works. to 1969, forrest myers decided to send into space a ceramic plate engraved with six new works by robert rauschenberg, donald novos, buck chamberlain, claes oldenburg, andy warhol and themself. the american artist tried to get nasa to approve his project regularly, but without much success. "live light" is one of them. the art collective beyond earth designed this sculpture of more than four meters high to research the links between our blue planet and the infinity of space. it became sent into space on june 18, 2021, aboard the neptune one capsule of the american firm space point of view. it remained there for six hours before going back to our atmosphere and landing in the atlantic ocean.
the beyond earth collective has since recovered the sculpture and is restoring it for display in a museum. "we now doing repairs on the piece to make sure it intended for public view, beyond earth co president richelle gribble told penta. "we like to share the story of how the work was created to amplify the biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems. the inner organs of the design represent the summation in excess of 1,000 species of ocean life,
if some artists and collectives send works created on the planet into space, others tell them to directly up there. such happens of "all wave, a watercolor that the american astronaut and artist nicole stott created in 2009 onboard the meeting place space station.
